william-kennish-3 “An Illustrated Talk on the subject of William Kennish, the Manx, Inventor, Poet and Explorer takes place on Saturday 28th January 2017 at 7.30 pm in St Paul’s Church Hall Lounge. Admission is free.

Amongst other things, Kennish invented a revolutionary naval ordnance system and proposed the route of the Panama Canal. Kennish was born at Corony Bridge in Maughold in 1799.

In support of the campaign to raise funds for a permanent memorial marker on Kennish’s grave in New York, President of Tynwald, Hon Steve Rodan said, “This extraordinary Manxman once helped push forward the frontier of human understanding and endewilliam-kennish-2avour.”

You can discover the incredible story of a Maughold man who took himself forward and made a great impact on the world at the talk. There will also be a talk on William Kennish at the Peel Sailor’s Shelter on East Quay at 7.30 pm on Sunday 15th January. Donations for the Memorial Fund will be requested at both talks.
