The Government’s Bathing Water Charts indicate a mixed bag for Garff’s beaches – but the future is brighter!

Maughold’s beaches have benefited in recent years from new sewerage treatment facilities at Port Lewaigue, Maughold Village, Booilushag, Corony and Glen Mona; the success of these initiatives was the result of a close partnership between the Commissioners and Manx Utilities.

The close partnership continues and the focus has now turned to beaches further south, and the Commissioners are very pleased with the very positive response from Manx Utilities in regard to providing sewerage treatment in Laxey Bay and Garwick Bay. It’s the early stages of a long process of investigation and planning, but the ball has begun to roll with our two MHK’s Daphne Caine and Martyn Perkins giving full support in Tynwald.

The water quality along the  SSSI designated Maughold coastline will experience further improvements when the new sewage outfall at the Mooragh in Ramsey is commissioned later this year.

The Commissioners hope to make further announcements during 2017 as Manx Utilities make further investigations to progress the initiative.
