The AGM takes place on the 21st February at Dhoon Hall, 7.30 pm. You’re chance to get involved and make a difference in the Parish!- see the newsletter for more details.

Other events are the legendary Pancake Day Event based from Maughold Church Hall, 4.00 pm on the 28th February.

Poetry, Pie and Peas at the Glen Mona Hotel, 7.30 pm Friday 3rd of February.

‘The Last Obit’  a play presented by the Legion Players including Stephanie Gray on the evening of Friday 24th of March

Garff Commissioners are to encourage all road users to ‘Share the Space’. The campaign is in partnership with the ‘SafeCyclingIOM’

Central to the campaign will be a call for a new law specifying a minimum passing distance of 1.5m when passing a cyclist.
The sheading was the home of Kate Burge who was killed in 2014 whilst being overtaken from behind. It is also the Isle of Man base of Mark Cavendish and Peter Kennaugh.
The Commissioners believe that a minimum passing distance law would improve road safety and encourage more people to travel by bicycle.

Other strands in the campaign will focus on the safety of all road users, but the emphasis will be on pedestrians and cyclists.

 “An Illustrated Talk on the subject of William Kennish, the Manx, Inventor, Poet and Explorer takes place on Saturday 28th January 2017 at 7.30 pm in St Paul’s Church Hall Lounge. Admission is free.

Amongst other things, Kennish invented a revolutionary naval ordnance system and proposed the route of the Panama Canal. Kennish was born at Corony Bridge in Maughold in 1799.

In support of the campaign to raise funds for a permanent memorial marker on Kennish’s grave in New York, President of Tynwald, Hon Steve Rodan said, “This extraordinary Manxman once helped push forward the frontier of human understanding and endeavour.”

A talk by Howard Parkin FRAS of the IOM Astronomical Society takes place in Christ Church, Laxey, Friday 6th January at 7.30 pm.

Daphne and Martyn will be in attendance at the Garff Commissioners’ Offices on New Road, Laxey from 10.00 am this Saturday.

Further surgeries with Martyn and Daphne will take place in Dhoon Church Hall at 10.00 am on Friday 17th February and at the Archibald Knox Public House in Onchan from 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm on Monday the 20th of March.
