There’s a Chance to see and hear the Isle of Man WI Choir…

…in a concert at the Laxey Working Men’s Institute this Friday 3rd of November at 7.00 pm. Tickets £7.00, including a light supper.

All to help raise funds for a memorial to Sophia Goulden who was born in Lonan and was the mother of Emmeline Pankhurst.

All Saints Church Proposals – The Petition Stage

The Commissioners have reached an important stage in their investigations into the proposal to purchase All Saints Church, Lonan from the church authorities with a view to operating it as a community resource and focal point for the Lonan community.

The proposal is that the church would be purchased for £50.00 and that Diocesan funds would then be transferred to finance all the necessary repairs and adaptations.

Once the building has been refurbished, it would be made available for hire and use by the community. The intention is that its use would be income generating; the aim being to provide a community venue that is well used and at least cost neutral. The re-opened church building would also operate as a ‘Festival Church’ for 4/6 special services a year, and would be available for wedding services as well as funeral services.

The next stage is to launch a formal Local Authority Petition to Government seeking permission to purchase the church for £50.00. A statutory element of the Petition Process is a period of public consultation on the request.
